I worried when I submitted this that I didn’t give enough text with the image, and that it would come across as trite and angst ridden. We all have our ups and downs, and I don’t usually expose my down times to people outside of my closest friends – so showing this side of myself to the world is about as revealing as I could be. I also feel like loneliness is something that society doesn’t have much compassion for, and it’s a pretty basic part of being human and something that we all experience at some point or another, so it really should be a more acceptable thing to express. Additionally, I feel like there is huge pressure, especially for women, to be “with” someone and that remaining alone carries some amount of social stigma – particularly as we age. All of these ideas were swirling around in my brain when I took this picture, and hopefully some of them came across.
i hear ya on the loneliness. it is definitely a part of our lives but i also feel it should celebrated when it is a choice, granted, it not always is.
thank you for your submission, hopefully you will keep being a part of our project.
I love this, and I think you’re right about loneliness. It is something that every human experiences but somehow it has become a thing to be embarrassed of. Like death, it is something that touches us all but in the end we are are all ill equipped.
Awwwwww!
